Job Summary The Technical Director, Building Structure is responsible for providing technical leadership, governance, and delivery excellence across building and property projects. This role oversees structural engineering design, multidisciplinary collaboration, project delivery, business development, and capability development while ensuring engineering excellence, regulatory compliance, and commercial performance. The Technical Director serves as the technical authority for Building Structures, driving innovation, quality, and continuous improvement across the division.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Building Structures division, ensuring effective operational management, governance, and delivery of projects.
Support the Sector Head in assessing current technical capabilities and developing future workforce and capability plans.
Develop and implement resource planning strategies to optimise utilisation and project delivery.
Drive knowledge management initiatives through the development of engineering procedures, standards, and best practices.
Foster a high-performance culture focused on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Act as the senior technical authority for Building Structures, providing guidance on complex engineering and design matters.
Establish and maintain engineering standards, design governance, and quality assurance processes across all projects.
Perform Design Auditor and QA/QC Auditor responsibilities, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and ISO requirements.
Conduct independent technical reviews and provide assurance on critical engineering deliverables and project decisions.
Visit project sites as required to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and project requirements.
Undertake Project Director (PD), Project Manager (PM), Qualified Person (QP), or Professional Engineer (PE) responsibilities for strategic and complex projects where required.
Oversee project portfolios to ensure delivery performance, risk management, and client satisfaction objectives are achieved.
Implement project controls, risk registers, and lessons learned processes to strengthen project delivery.
Lead business development activities by identifying new opportunities, supporting proposal preparation, and strengthening client relationships.
Contribute technical expertise to bids, tenders, and solution development for complex and high-value projects.
Manage division financial performance, including budgets, resource utilisation, profitability, and operational efficiency.
Monitor and drive key performance indicators including project margins, delivery quality, utilisation, client satisfaction, and talent development.
Mentor and develop engineers through coaching, technical guidance, succession planning, and performance management.
Promote the adoption of engineering technologies, digital tools, and process improvements to enhance productivity and quality.
Champion Health, Safety, Environment and Wellbeing (HSEW) initiatives by promoting a safe, inclusive, and compliant working environment.
Technical Expertise
Extensive expertise in Civil and Structural engineering, particularly within building and property developments.
Strong knowledge of structural engineering design, design governance, QA/QC, and engineering standards.
