Job Summary The Senior Structural Designer is responsible for producing high-quality structural models, drawings, and technical documentation for offshore oil and gas projects. This role ensures design deliverables are technically accurate, compliant with project requirements and industry standards, while providing technical guidance to junior designers and supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Perform as Lead, Sub-Lead, or Senior Engineer during project execution and take ownership of assigned structural engineering tasks.
Develop accurate, timely, and cost-effective structural models, drawings, and technical documentation in accordance with project requirements.
Produce and verify structural design deliverables, ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.
Perform structural modelling, drafting, and design verification using approved engineering tools and methodologies.
Supervise and provide technical guidance to assigned Structural Designers.
Resolve complex structural design and modelling challenges throughout project execution.
Coordinate with engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and efficient project delivery.
Support engineering teams by providing practical, value-driven design solutions during project execution and tendering activities.
Ensure compliance with client specifications, company design procedures, and recognised industry standards.
Prepare, review, and check structural models, drawings, and technical documentation in accordance with project schedules.
Interface with third-party engineering and design teams where required.
Coordinate closely with procurement, construction, and other engineering disciplines during project execution.
Provide technical assistance and site support during fabrication, installation, and construction activities when required.
Support multiple projects and tenders on an ad hoc basis as required.
Assist Engineering Project Managers and Discipline Leads in defining resource requirements and planning project deliverables.
Monitor progress against project schedules, budgets, and deliverables, reporting status and lessons learned to project management.
Attend technical meetings with clients, suppliers, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
Support tender submissions by preparing technical content and estimating design manhours.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of discipline procedures, technical notes, and design guidelines.
Promote effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams while maintaining compliance with the organisation's management system and quality requirements.
Technical Expertise
Extensive experience in offshore structural design, drafting, and 3D modelling.
Mandatory hands-on experience using Smart 3D (S3D) for structural modelling.
Strong knowledge of structural detailing, joint detailing, material take-off (MTO), and bill of quantities (BOQ).
Proficiency in preparing and reviewing structural drawings and fabrication deliverables.
Strong understanding of offshore structural engineering practices, fabrication, and construction requirements.
Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design interfaces and resolve complex design issues.
Experience supporting engineering, procurement, fabrication, and installation activities.
Working knowledge of E3D, Tekla, and BOCAD is an advantage.
Knowledge of offshore fabrication and brownfield installation activities is highly desirable.
Qualifications
Technical Diploma in Civil, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in structural design and execution of offshore oil and gas projects.
Proven ability to independently deliver high-quality design outputs within project schedules and budgets.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor junior designers and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
