Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, and technical documentation of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems throughout the project lifecycle, from project handover through to system delivery. This role develops technical solutions for complex customer requirements, ensures cost-effective and high-quality engineering designs, and provides technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers while supporting project execution, manufacturing, testing, and customer acceptance activities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design and configure UPS systems in accordance with customer specifications, engineering standards, and project requirements.
  • Develop detailed electrical designs, including Bills of Materials (BOM), electrical drawings, technical calculations, and project documentation.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within agreed project milestones and schedules.
  • Participate in project handover meetings with Sales, Tendering, and Project Management teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Review customer specifications and identify technical requirements, risks, and design considerations.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers by evaluating customer comments and preparing technical responses.
  • Prepare assembly documentation, test documentation, change instructions, and system release documentation to support manufacturing and testing activities.
  • Provide technical support to assembly and test teams during system build and factory testing.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), technical inspections, and implement engineering modifications resulting from punch list items.
  • Coordinate technical clarification and order placement with third-party suppliers where required.
  • Develop PLC programming for specialised customer features and prepare non-standard operating instructions where applicable.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, Procurement, Project Management, and Technical Management to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Support sales and tendering teams by providing technical expertise during proposal development.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, promoting continuous knowledge sharing and adherence to engineering standards.

Technical Expertise
  • Strong expertise in the design and configuration of industrial Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
  • Extensive experience preparing electrical drawings and documentation using EPLAN.
  • Proficiency in electrical system design, Bills of Materials (BOM), engineering calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, assembly, testing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and system commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming for customised system functionality.
  • Strong understanding of engineering change management and configuration control processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex engineering projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard Windows-based engineering applications.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience within the electrical engineering industry.
  • At least four (4) years' experience in UPS system design.
  • Proven ability to independently design and deliver large or complex electrical engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience mentoring and coaching junior engineers.
