Job Summary The Senior Contracts Engineer is responsible for administering upstream and downstream contracts across multiple business units, ensuring effective contract governance, compliance, and commercial control throughout the project lifecycle. This role supports project teams by providing contractual advice, managing commercial deliverables, mitigating risks, and ensuring accurate invoicing, claims management, and contract closure in line with contractual requirements and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Provide contractual support and advisory services to project teams in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Manage timely issuance and tracking of contractual deliverables, including insurances, performance guarantees, and parent company guarantees.
Collaborate with project teams to determine Value of Work Done (VOWD), ensuring complete supporting documentation and preparation of draft invoices or proforma invoices for internal verification.
Coordinate with Finance to issue invoices in accordance with contract terms and follow up on payments, maintaining a comprehensive invoice and payment register.
Analyse project financial matters and prepare monthly receivable projections, working closely with the Costing Team on accurate Forecast at Completion (FAC).
Draft commercial and contractual correspondence to clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
Participate in project meetings (internal and external) to address project status, cost, schedule, and contractual matters.
Initiate and manage contractual variation orders and claims in compliance with contract requirements, with input from project and operations teams.
Support supply chain management and costing activities as required.
Ensure proper contract close-out in alignment with contractual terms and conditions.
Identify, assess, and manage contractual and commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Support proposal and tender preparation, including coordination with business units on scope of work, legal teams on terms and conditions, and costing teams on pricing, including quality checks prior to submission.
Establish and maintain guidelines, processes, procedures, and templates to improve contract management practices.
Provide support and guidance to team members when required.
Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of project and contract management within oil and gas projects.
Hands-on experience in contract administration, invoicing, claims management, and contract close-out.
Sound understanding of commercial risk identification and mitigation.
Experience supporting tender and proposal preparation, including commercial evaluations.
Strong analytical, financial, and contractual writing skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with project, finance, legal, costing, and supply chain teams.
Qualifications
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum of eight (8) years’ working experience in contract management within oil and gas projects.
High attention to detail with a proactive, hands-on approach to contract execution.
Strong business acumen with a results-driven and “can-do” mindset.
Ability to work effectively under constraints and ambiguity while delivering high-quality outcomes.
