Job Summary
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing both pre-contract and post-contract commercial functions across geotechnical construction projects. This role supports tendering, procurement, contract administration, cost control, and site execution to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. The position requires strong analytical capability, commercial awareness, and the ability to balance technical, operational, and financial considerations to maximise project value.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, geotechnical data, and contract conditions to identify pricing strategies and commercial risks.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), quantity take-offs, and detailed cost plans covering labour, plant, materials, preliminaries, overheads, and profit margins.
  • Develop pricing models, risk registers, clarifications, and alternative proposals with quantified cost and time implications.
  • Support internal bid reviews and secure necessary approvals for pricing and contractual terms.
  • Prepare and negotiate Requests for Quotation (RFQs), bid comparisons, Letters of Intent (LOIs), and subcontract agreements with clearly defined scope and milestones.
  • Ensure proper flow-down of contractual obligations, warranties, and insurance requirements to subcontractors.
  • Administer contract conditions, including standard forms such as PSSCOC, SIA, FIDIC, or bespoke contracts.
  • Manage change control, variations, claims, and contractual correspondence.
  • Prepare and submit monthly progress valuations and payment applications with complete supporting documentation.
  • Certify subcontractor claims, including retention, set-offs, and contra-charges.
  • Oversee site activities to ensure safe, timely, and quality project delivery.
  • Supervise site teams and subcontractors, ensuring productivity, accountability, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Drive cost optimisation initiatives, including value engineering and efficient resource planning.
  • Monitor procurement alignment and minimise material waste.
  • Ensure compliance with governance requirements, audit processes, statutory regulations, and HSEQ standards.
  • Maintain proper documentation including progress reports, QA/QC records, claims documentation, and risk assessments.
  • Perform regular site work, with significant time spent outdoors at construction sites.

Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of measurement rules and contract administration practices.
  • Working knowledge of common contract forms such as PSSCOC, SIA, and FIDIC.
  • Experience in cost planning, budgeting, and commercial risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in cost management systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Sound understanding of construction site operations and geotechnical project risks.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5–6 years’ relevant working experience with a main contractor or in a tendering/commercial role.
  • Strong commercial awareness with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple project demands effectively.
