Job Summary
The Project Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial management of engineering and construction projects throughout the project lifecycle. This role works closely with project managers and finance teams to ensure accurate project costing, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance. The position plays a critical role in monitoring project performance, managing financial risks, and supporting informed business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide contractual support and advisory services to project teams in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and track project costs, budgets, and overall financial performance.
  • Prepare project cost reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to support project and management reviews.
  • Support project budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and cost control activities.
  • Review project expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and project objectives.
  • Assist with project billing, invoicing, revenue recognition, and collections processes.
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports and performance updates for management review.
  • Collaborate with project managers to identify financial risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Support contract administration activities and ensure compliance with contractual and financial requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project financial records, documentation, and audit trails.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, finance teams, and external auditors as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to project accounting and financial controls.

Technical Expertise
  • Strong understanding of project accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Experience in project financial reporting, variance analysis, and cash flow management.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition and project billing processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems.
  • Ability to analyse financial data and provide meaningful insights to support decision-making.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting engineering, construction, or project-based environments.
  • Exposure to mission-critical facilities such as data centres, semiconductor facilities, pharmaceutical plants, or life sciences facilities is advantageous.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' accounting experience, preferably within construction, engineering, consultancy, or project-based environments.
  • Proven experience supporting construction or engineering projects is essential.
  • Experience within engineering design consultancy organisations will be an added advantage.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
