Job Summary
The CCGT Power Plant Operator is responsible for supporting the construction, commissioning, and operational phases of a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations, working closely with engineering, commissioning, and maintenance teams. The position involves operating plant systems, supporting performance testing, and maintaining high availability and reliability of plant equipment in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and implementing operational documentation, including policies, procedures, SOPs, operation logs, and emergency response procedures.
  • Support the establishment and implementation of Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) and Permit to Work (PTW) systems.
  • Review engineering deliverables, technical specifications, and contractor submissions in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Identify and procure tools and test equipment required for plant operations, including water treatment and laboratory systems.
  • Participate in commissioning, performance testing, and plant start-up activities in accordance with OEM and project requirements.
  • Operate the CCGT power plant safely and efficiently under the supervision of the Shift Charge Engineer using Plant DCS and GT/ST control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the management and implementation of PTW systems during operations.
  • Perform minor maintenance activities and support maintenance teams during outages and scheduled works.
  • Monitor plant performance to ensure maximum availability, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Assist in troubleshooting operational issues and conduct root cause analysis for unplanned events.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams in planning and scheduling equipment outages.

Technical Expertise
  • In-depth knowledge of CCGT power generation systems, including gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, air-cooled condensers (ACC), water treatment systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Hands-on experience in plant operations using Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and gas/steam turbine control systems.
  • Strong experience in start-up and shutdown procedures for gas turbines, steam turbines, and HRSG systems.
  • Experience in generator synchronisation and plant performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with LOTO and PTW systems within power plant operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for operational fault diagnosis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.

Qualifications
  • Recognised Engineering Diploma, Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Plant Operator in a CCGT power station or similar environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating plant equipment from a centralised control room using DCS and turbine control systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in start-up and shutdown of gas turbines, steam turbines, and HRSG systems.
  • Experience in generator synchronisation and plant operations is required.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines, Emerson Ovation DCS, or similar systems is advantageous.
