Job Summary The Mechanical Technician is responsible for supporting both the construction/commissioning and operational phases of a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant. This role ensures the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all mechanical equipment through effective maintenance practices, system implementation, and technical support aligned with operational and OEM requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support the development and implementation of mechanical maintenance systems, including SOPs, maintenance plans, schedules, and asset management programmes.
Assist in establishing predictive and preventive maintenance programmes, spare parts inventory, and Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Identify and procure required tools and test equipment for mechanical maintenance activities.
Assist in setting up and maintaining a functional mechanical workshop.
Support engineering teams in reviewing technical specifications, contractor submissions, and project deliverables.
Participate in commissioning, testing, and plant start-up activities, ensuring compliance with OEM and project requirements.
Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on all plant mechanical equipment, including gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSG, ACC, pumps, compressors, motors, valves, and associated balance of plant systems.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date mechanical documentation and maintenance records.
Support long-term maintenance programmes with OEM providers.
Troubleshoot
equipment issues and perform root cause analysis during unplanned breakdowns.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards at all times.
Technical Expertise
Strong hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance within CCGT power plants.
In-depth knowledge of gas and steam turbines, HRSG systems, ACC, and auxiliary equipment.
Experience with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Proficiency in maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with OEM maintenance programmes and requirements is advantageous.
Experience with Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines is an added advantage.
Qualifications
Recognised Mechanical Technician Diploma, Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
Minimum of seven (7) years of hands-on experience in a CCGT power plant or similar environment.
Proactive, pragmatic, and results-oriented approach to work.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and within a team.
Good command of English, both written and spoken.
Experience working in a multicultural or international environment is an added advantage.
