Job Summary The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for delivering advanced structural and naval architecture engineering solutions for offshore oil and gas projects, particularly F(P)SO and floating production facilities. This role supports the design, analysis, verification, and optimisation of offshore structures while ensuring compliance with project requirements, international standards, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Provide contractual support and advisory services to project teams in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Develop Basis of Design documents and ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering standards, and design philosophies.
Perform advanced structural and naval architecture analyses for F(P)SO hulls, topsides, and interface structures using finite element analysis methods.
Conduct engineering assessments including intact and damage stability, hydrodynamics, mooring analysis, lifting, loadout, transportation, installation, fatigue, vibration, dynamic response, blast, and fire analyses.
Optimise structural and hull designs to improve safety, operational efficiency, and environmental compliance.
Prepare material take-offs and support detailed engineering deliverables throughout project execution.
Review and verify engineering deliverables, technical calculations, and 3D models produced by subcontractors, vendors, and shipyards.
Manage technical queries, engineering interfaces, and support resolution of client and classification society review comments.
Develop and review 3D geometric models using structural pre-processors and solid modelling software.
Prepare and review F(P)SO General Arrangements, accommodation layouts, hull lines, offset tables, material specifications, and structural data sheets.
Support material selection for structural components based on operational requirements and design loads.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams to resolve structural design and installation challenges.
Support tanker conversion projects into F(P)SO facilities, including ship and topside structural integration activities.
Perform other engineering duties as assigned by engineering or project management.
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of project and contract management within oil and gas projects.
Strong expertise in offshore structural and naval architecture engineering for F(P)SO and floating installations.
Comprehensive knowledge of marine and offshore codes and standards including AWS D1.1, API, AISC, ASME, ABS, BV, DNV, ISO 19901 series, IMO, MARPOL, and OCIMF requirements.
Hands-on experience in finite element analysis, offshore structural assessments, and structural optimisation.
Familiarity with metocean studies, environmental load generation, hull motion analysis, slamming, and green water assessments.
Strong understanding of tanker conversion projects, offshore structural systems, welded and bolted joint configurations, and topside integration.
Proficiency in engineering software including STAAD.Pro, FEMAP, SDC Verifier, ANSYS Workbench, ABS Eagle for FPSO, BV VERISTAR Hull, GHS, SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, VB-Script, and Microsoft Office applications.
Experience in preparation of as-built structural drawings and computer model generation.
Qualifications
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in structural design and engineering within the oil and gas industry, particularly involving F(P)SO or floating installations.
At least 5 years’ experience in offshore oil and gas processing projects involving topsides, subsea structures, or floating production systems.
Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in a senior or lead engineering capacity managing teams, deliverables, or projects.
Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to work on complex offshore engineering projects.
