Job Summary
The Lead Instrument Engineer is responsible for leading the instrument engineering discipline throughout all phases of project execution, ensuring high-quality engineering deliverables are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements. This role provides technical leadership, supports proposal development, coordinates multidisciplinary interfaces, and mentors junior engineers to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the instrument engineering team in delivering high-quality design documentation in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards, and company procedures.
  • Produce engineering deliverables within agreed project schedules and budgets while maintaining technical excellence.
  • Prepare man-hour estimates and material cost estimates to support proposals and tender submissions.
  • Review and approve engineering documents, specifications, calculations, and technical deliverables prior to submission.
  • Ensure timely client approval of engineering and requisitioning documents, while supporting technical and commercial evaluation of change orders and claims.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and optimisation of material quantities without compromising quality or safety.
  • Ensure vendor designs and equipment comply with contractual technical specifications and project requirements.
  • Monitor engineering progress to ensure adherence to committed man-hours, budgets, and project quality objectives.
  • Provide timely internal and external reporting on engineering activities and project status.
  • Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines, procurement, planning, clients, and third-party stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Advise the Head of Department on manpower planning and technical competency requirements for successful project delivery.
  • Allocate work effectively across the engineering team and provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Take overall responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and completeness of instrument engineering deliverables.

Technical Expertise
  • Extensive expertise in instrument design engineering for oil and gas or industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of international design codes, engineering standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout detailed engineering and project execution phases.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation systems, vendor package reviews, technical requisitioning, and engineering documentation.
  • Proven ability to manage engineering budgets, schedules, resource planning, and project reporting.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills across clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, accredited by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) or an approved equivalent.
  • Minimum of 18 years' experience in instrument design engineering.
  • At least 10 years' experience in a Lead Instrument Engineer or equivalent leadership role.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration with the relevant engineering board is preferred.
