Job Summary
The Geotechnical Design Engineer is responsible for providing geotechnical design, analysis, and technical proposal support for both tender and ongoing project activities. Reporting to the Design Manager, this role works closely with Business Development and Operations teams to deliver practical, compliant, and cost-effective geotechnical solutions. The position requires strong analytical capability, sound technical knowledge, and regular site engagement to ensure alignment between design intent and actual ground conditions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review and summarise soil investigation reports, tender specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Identify geotechnical risks and propose appropriate design solutions for tenders.
  • Prepare and draft technical proposals in support of business development activities.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis and design in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings in coordination with draughtspersons.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess ground conditions and ensure integration between design assumptions and site realities.
  • Perform quality control reviews to verify alignment between design assumptions and actual site conditions.
  • Carry out geotechnical analysis using industry tools such as Slope/W, Plaxis 2D, Plaxis 3D, and other relevant design software.
  • Conduct back-analysis and research using as-built data to support continuous technical improvement.
  • Prepare technical proposals for remedial works during construction when required.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and subcontractors on technical matters.
  • Perform regular outdoor site walks at construction sites as part of project coordination requirements.

Technical Expertise
  • Strong foundation in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
  • Hands-on experience with geotechnical analysis and design software, including Plaxis 2D, Plaxis 3D, and Slope/W.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to interpret soil investigation data and apply analytical methods to practical design solutions.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 1–3 years of relevant working experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Valid Supervise Construction Work for WSH certificate (preferred).
  • Meticulous, detail-oriented, proactive, and willing to learn with a positive, results-driven attitude.
