Job Summary The Cost Manager is responsible for providing accurate, timely, and value-added cost analysis, control, and reporting across projects. This role ensures effective financial oversight, supports informed decision-making, and contributes to the successful delivery of projects through robust cost management, forecasting, and commercial governance.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and maintain project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and project control budgets.
Monitor project commitments, expenditures, and cost performance throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare and manage Forecast at Completion (FAC), including identification and evaluation of cost issues and risks.
Determine value of work done (VOWD) and percentage of completion (%) for revenue recognition purposes.
Identify, analyse, manage, and report variations or changes impacting project performance, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions.
Prepare and monitor project cash flow forecasts and financial projections.
Develop project costing estimates for new bids and tenders.
Establish and maintain cost management guidelines, processes, procedures, and templates to enhance cost control and monitoring.
Manage, supervise, mentor, and support team members to ensure capability development and effective performance.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Technical Expertise
Strong expertise in project cost management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial control.
Hands-on experience in project cost reporting, FAC preparation, and cash flow management.
Sound knowledge of revenue recognition methods, including VOWD and percentage of completion.
Proficiency in SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Strong commercial and contract management awareness with industry knowledge.
Excellent analytical, technical, and contractual writing skills.
Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Minimum of eight (8) years’ working experience in project costing or cost management.
Detail-oriented, resourceful, and proactive with strong business acumen and a “can-do” attitude.
Ability to work effectively under constraints and ambiguity while delivering high-quality results.
